Master of Science in Education- Gifted Education
The Master of Science (MS) in Education with a concentration in Gifted Education is designed to prepare educators and administrators for teaching or leadership roles in the field of gifted education, with an emphasis on research and application of current best practices in the field. The 33-credit program, based on the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) and Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) standards for teachers of gifted children, will provide candidates with knowledge and skills in curriculum, instruction, program development, and assessment to meet the needs of academically talented students. The program is recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education as meeting the requirements for Gifted and Talented Specialist certification in Maryland. Courses are offered online and in-person.
Graduate Certificate in Gifted Education
The program provides an 18-credit sequence of courses designed specifically for classroom and resource teachers who are working with gifted students. Candidates will study the foundations of gifted education, characteristics of gifted learners, and hone their knowledge and skills in curriculum, instruction, and assessment to meet the needs of academically talented students in their classrooms. As part of the program, candidates will observe gifted students and design and present lessons that are appropriate for gifted students’ cognitive and affective needs.
